Welcome to Yad Sarah's dental clinic administrated by Dr. Tamar Kartin-Gabay (picture) * The clinic's staff is being helped by a new scanner; its purchase was enabled thanks to donations of USA Friends of Yad Sarah * By YS's sites reporter Millet Malka Yahalom

Cleanliness, order and welcoming staff with contagious smiles met me at the geriatric dental clinic on the third floor of Yad Sarah House in Jerusalem. This is the place where seniors, among them Holocaust survivors, receive professional dental treatment they can afford. Dr. Tamar Kartin-Gabay, the clinic manager, is an oral health expert with special training in geriatric odontology. Formerly holding a position at Maccabident in Betar Illit, she started working in Yad Sarah in 2014. I must admit that entering a dental clinic usually makes me a bit wary. However Dr. Tamar was incredibly pleasant, captivating me with her personal charm and her energy. During our long conversation, she enthusiastically described the clinic's impressive innovations. The Dental Assistance course for ultra-orthodox young women, which opened in 2014, has currently marked the completion of its second session. All the successfully graduated students are now employed, contributing to their families' incomes. Lasting for about three months and charging just a nominal fee, this course is under the close professional supervision of the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine. One of the most moving issues is the clinic's mobile service: operating two days a week (Sunday and Thursday), staff and equipment travel to the homes of people who are unable to come to the clinic because of limited functioning. The devoted staff deserves all possible thanks: Dr. Neriya Shmelov volunteers with the mobile clinic and is being helped by assistant Na'ama Bronsky, who recently was a candidate for Yad Sarah's outstanding worker prize. With a broad satisfied smile, Dr. Tamar shared with me the novelty of the dental scanner. This digital device eliminates the use of paper and computerizes the medical documentation. It saves about 7 minutes of developing for each photograph, saves the medical evidence and downloads it directly to the computer. The scanner was donated thanks to Friends of Yad Sarah in the USA. Many thanks to the clinic and its director; this is yet another Yad Sarah demonstration of grace, compassion and professionalism. Yad Sarah's world as I have revealed it here is so much more than lending wheelchairs.
