“She is Well Known for her Ability to Work Compassionately and Effectively with Different Cultures and Communities”

Rabbanit Esther Landman, the wife of the chief rabbi of Holon, has been the volunteer director of the city’s branch of Yad Sarah since 1985. Mrs. Landman is a one-woman powerhouse, who through her charitable work has built bridges of communication between the various communities in her home city – religious and secular, new immigrants and veteran Israelis – uniting the many diverse groups that call Holon home. For many years, Rabbanit Landman has been a member of the committee to promote the standing of women and was a leading figure in the establishment of an umbrella committee to encourage volunteerism in Holon, today numbering more than 100 organizations. With the strength of her personality, she encouraged others to open a dialogue of understanding and cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of the city. At Yad Sarah’s Holon branch, the Rabbanit oversees a staff of approximately 200 volunteers on a daily basis. The branch deals with some 2,000 loans and returns of medical equipment every month. Mrs. Landman is always ready to listen to all who need her and has helped and supported many people in their struggle to deal with debilitating illness or injury. In addition to the running of the branch, the Rabbanit operates several services for the benefit of seniors including a club for visually impaired senior citizens, activities for those bedridden in the hospital, provision of hot meals for the needy, and the installation of Emergency Alarm Response Systems for those who need them. Her initiatives allow elderly people to feel useful and needed by others and help keep them socially active and involved in their community despite their physical limitations. The Rabbanit is of course active in the Torah community in Holon, teaching and lecturing to both religious and secular groups. She has taken a special interest in women suffering with fertility issues, helping them receive the most up to date treatment possible. Yad Sarah is proud of Rabbanit Esther Landman’s contribution to her community, a contribution that exemplifies Torah values and the values of Yad Sarah as one.
