She came from the USA for a year of learning and connecting with her roots, and found what she wished for at the Exhibition and Guidance Center (directed by Shani Rosenfeld) at Yad Sarah House in Jerusalem

I am Eliana Dixada from San Diego California, currently studying physiotherapy in Boston. I arrived at Yad Sarah in June, as part of a combined learning/roots journey project: you come, you tour, you give. What I was looking for, the right combination, I've found in Yad Sarah. Working at the Exhibition and Guidance Center in Jerusalem's YS building is quite an experience: watching the way in which Shani and her staff welcome the visitors, how they have an answer to each question that changes the quality of someone's life, for example, the correct method of bathing a mobility-limited relative and what are the devices needed. Visitors leave the center with more answers and information than they hoped for. All information is delivered professionally and willingly. People who need this information feel that the staff indeed wishes to help them. I kept watching and learning and helped the staff by translating into English a lot of explanatory leaflets. My experience in YS left a profound impression on me. The fact that there is a volunteer organization of such a scope in Israel is in itself a most useful lesson for me as a student. I wish physiotherapy to be my profession after graduating, to work with elderly people living in protected facilities and to help them maintain their fitness and mobility. Yad Sarah has given me a great head start. I recall an elderly couple who arrived at YS. At a certain point they told us that they were Australians who made aliyah at the age of 40. They said that since they've lived in Israel they have never known such a humane and hospitable organization like Yad Sarah. They were touched, they said. I was also touched by the significance that the staff members here attribute to their work and by their true passion to help. This is the way such service should be provided, and I feel very much inspired by it. When will I return? After graduating in Boston, I'll be back in Israel, and hopefully at Yad Sarah. Write it down. This is a promise!
