The director of the Neve Zuf branch of Yad Sarah, Geula Amitai speaks about the devastation of the fire and the determination to keep going. * Photo: Adi Pearl*

"Many of our neighbors have been devastated by the loss of their homes in the fires that raged across Israel this past week. The fires have destroyed out little corner of paradise that we built with such love." These words were spoken by the director of the Yad Sarah branch in the settlement of Neve Zuf, where the home of longtime YS volunteer Avigayil Ben Nun lay in ruins. Avigayil's beautiful home, surrounded by forest and flowers, was burnt to the ground, a home known for the warm welcome and giving spirit of its inhabitants. "We were all evacuated from our homes because of the danger. It's a terrible feeling for all of us. We were happy that at least the Yad Sarah building was unharmed so we can continue to offer its services to those in need." We are thankful no one was hurt and the love the residents have for this special place will help us rebuild and grow stronger. Green will once again cover the ground and replace the black destruction of the fires. We will build new homes and welcome more families, strong in the knowledge that G-d is watching over us at every moment.
