Meet Muquadam, a two-and-a-half-year- old boy from Tanzania. He came to Israel under the auspices of Save a Child’s Heart (SACH), an NGO that arranges vital operations for children from developing countries in need of cardiac surgery. And Yad Sarah gave him a wheelchair to take home. In the photo: Muquadam with his mother and Yad Sarah Tourism Director Nadia Alalu.

Muquadam Siraj is a cheerful and inquisitive toddler, who, accompanied by his mother, Zena, arrived in Israel in mid-May, 2016, for life-saving heart surgery. He had suffered a stroke at the age of eighteen months that left him paralyzed on his left side. As if that wasn't enough, he was also left with a hole in his heart and severe breathing problems. Though the surgery to correct his heart condition was successful, he suffered some very serious complications including an obstruction in his windpipe. The surgery to relieve the obstruction left him in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wolfson Medical Centre under high-level care for seven long months. Thanks to the incredible dedication and care of the doctors and nurses at the medical center, Muquadam was finally able to return to the Save a Child’s Heart Children’s Home in Holon, to the joy of everyone. There he is getting the rehabilitative services he needs to be able to return to his home with a chance for a normal life. Jade, an occupational therapist at SACH, saw that Muquadem was in need of a toddler-sized wheelchair to take back home to Tanzania with him. She turned to Nadia Alalu, director of the Tourist Desk in the Department of Public Relations and Resource Development at Yad Sarah House in Jerusalem. Nadia recalls: "I went to meet Muquadam and his mother, Zena, with Yad Sarah spokesperson David Rothner. Our meeting was very moving and heartwarming. I arranged for Muquadam to receive the specially-sized wheelchair he needed to return to his home and saw how the devotion of the staff at the Wolfson Medical Center had helped so many children from all over the world." We at Yad Sarah wish Muquadam and his mother a safe trip home – and continued good health in the years to come!
