Every Yad Sarah volunteer is a valued member of the Yad Sarah family. Yad Sarah could not exist without its army of more than 6,000 volunteers who fill positions at all levels of the organizational structure. *Photos by David Rothner and Beni Cohen

This Chanukah, we marked each day by the lighting of the Yad Sarah menorah in the lobby of Yad Sarah House in Jerusalem by a different volunteer, accompanied by CEO Moshe Cohen and founder Uri Lupoliansky. Alex Langer, a volunteer in the transportation division, lit the second candle of Chanukah. Alex worked for almost 40 years in the Transportation Ministry and reached the position of deputy CEO, also serving as acting director general of the Ministry. He is certainly an authority on transportation, so when he says, "Yad Sarah served as my example for developing a transportation system for people with mobility issues," it is certainly a great compliment. "When my parents were ill and I needed medical equipment, I came to Yad Sarah and found what I needed, and the volunteers impressed me very much. It's not expected to come to a large institution and receive personal attention from people who do not get paid. I said at that time that as soon as I retire, I will also volunteer at Yad Sarah." When Alex started at Yad Sarah, they tried to convince him to take a managerial position. However, he decided he did not come to make a career. "I really appreciate those who take management positions at Yad Sarah, but I wanted to touch people," he says. For the past three years, Alex has been coming once a week and working a shift of 6-7 hours. Moshe Cohen, CEO of Yad Sarah: "Alex comes from Tel Aviv to volunteer in the transportation division. When he worked for the Transportation Ministry, he helped thousands of people with disabilities. Now, he is helping them through Yad Sarah. We thank him very much." Alex: "I enjoy every moment of volunteering, the volunteering itself and the people here. Yad Sarah is full of good people. I never experienced such an institution of kindness, where everyone gives a hand and does his best. Many people I meet would not be able to get around without the help of the vans and drivers. Some of them have huge wheelchairs that they cannot handle alone. I feel that I am doing a good deed on every trip. When I get a compliment from a passenger - that's the best feeling there is. Prof. Jonathan Mann, the medical director of Yad Sarah, lit the fifth candle of Chanukah at Yad Sarah. Prof. Mann served as dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at Hadassah Medical Center. He is the son of Prof. Kalman Mann, who served as President of Yad Sarah for 18 years. Prof. Mann has been a supporter of Yad Sarah for decades along with many members of his family. Together they established an "Excellence Fund" that awards prizes to outstanding volunteers and employees. In his position at Yad Sarah, Prof. Mann manages the medical side of the dental clinic for the elderly, the selection of medical equipment for the lending center, the development of new programs, and much more. Prof. Mann attended the candle lighting ceremony with his wife Tova (who worked for many years in the Public Relations Division), family members, children and grandchildren. The lobby was full of volunteers and family members. Prof. Mann: "I am happy to join the family of Yad Sarah volunteers at the request of Uri Lupolianski, and I hope that I will be able to contribute to this wonderful organization. You represent the beautiful Israel."
