It sounds very straightforward – a mobile dental clinic that treats patients who cannot get to a dentist's office because of disability. And, though every patient wants the very best dentists and the expert treatment available from Yad Sarah's mostly volunteer professionals, it's actually the little things that leave the biggest impression.
What stands out in the mind of the patient is not the drilling and the filling but the gentle care and consideration they receive from those that come to their home to treat them.
When Dr. Ihab Mansour received the call at the Beersheba branch of Yad Sarah that a wheelchair-bound patient was in need of dental care, she gathered her equipment and her team of two – dental assistant Yasmeen Ella and driver Solo Haimberg – and set off.
Her patient was not only wheelchair bound, with all of the complexities that that entails, but also had trouble swallowing, making it imperative to find a position that kept him comfortable throughout the long treatment and to give him frequent breaks to rest.
Not being new to this type of situation, Dr. Mansour looked around the home to find pillows and other aids that would keep her patient comfortable during treatment and allow her easy access to the patient's mouth. Once the patient was settled, only then did the treatment begin.
When they left, the patient and his wife were lavish in their praise of the mobile dental team and so grateful the service was made available to them. One of the biggest challenges facing caregivers of wheelchair bound individuals is transportation. It is impossible to put into words the importance of having vital services available at home. It makes the experience so much less stressful for the whole family. It also reduces the chance of further injury, something that is a real concern when dealing with an elderly person cared for by an equally elderly spouse.
Driver Solo described his experiences as part of the team: I am so impressed with the mobile dental service. The doctor and assistants are very devoted to the patients and work hard to ensure their comfort, both physically and emotionally. There is a lot of equipment to bring, which is not easy when there are many steps to climb. In addition, because we do not bring a dentist's chair with us, the first order of business is to set up a work station that takes the patient's individual needs into consideration.
The mobile dental service is one of many that Yad Sarah operates for the benefit of those in need of special treatment conditions. The staff find great satisfaction in their work and patients and their families are truly grateful for this wonderful service.#_lt#div style="text-align#_sc# justify;" dir="ltr"#_gt#
