Requests for assistance flow from Israel and around the world, arriving via e-mail, Facebook and the “Yad Sarah” weekly on line newspaper: “We heard about your service. Can Yad Sarah assist us as well?”
We have received inquiries from visiting tourists needing information, transportation or assistance, the elderly asking how they can include a donation in their will, a patient’s family members inquiring about Yad Sarah services and a mother seeking equipment for a child in need.
This request, which arrived this week, reads:
“My five and half year old son and suffers from cerebral palsy. I need a walker for him and was told that I can borrow one from Yad Sarah. I wanted to know what exactly the procedure is: will the walker be on loan to us for a limited time only? My son is expected to have tendon extension surgery next February; would I be able to borrow the walker now? What happens if I’m not sure what type of walker he needs? Are there professionals who can help guide me? Waiting to hear from you, thank you.”
This request was forwarded to the professional team at Yad Sarah. The team specializes in improving the quality of life of patients and the rehabilitators in their home, answering questions both in person or in writing via electronic mail. All by examining the available aid equipment that were developed by Yad Sarah and others for this specific need.
In addition, a permanent display of the equipment is available next to the Yad Sarah borrowing center in Jerusalem, and also in other main centers. Any person receiving equipment can examine its capabilities before borrowing, as well as, familiarize themselves with additional instruments available for persons with difficulties and learn how they operate.
The flow of requests arrives from tourists and visitors as well as Israelis. This week, we received a request from Melanie and Michael (pictured above), a Canadian couple, who are married for two years and expecting their first child. They are excited about their visit to Israel, and will spend most of their time in Haifa.
Michael uses an electric wheelchair and the couple asked if we can assist with transportation, and where they will be able to receive maintenance on the chair while they are visiting Israel. Would Michael be able to visit the Yad Sarah Center in Haifa?
“We discovered the English Yad Sarah website while surfing the net preparing our first visit to Israel, and were very impressed by the giving spirit that we observed on the site” they wrote “We would be grateful to be able to take advantage of your program staff’s the professional knowledge in order to help ease some of the challenges faced by Michael’s physical limitations during our stay in Haifa.”
Melanie and Michael, we have received your request and we are happy to assist you. Our Electronic Mail boxinfo@yadsarah.org.il is never empty.
Among the requests, we also found the one from Grandma Nadin from Belgium. She is asking us to send her a copy of the Yad Sarah Calendar as soon as possible, so that she will know when to visit her six grandchildren living in Israel.
To the mother, Melanie and Michael and Grandma Nadin, as well as the hundreds of other visitors and weekly writers from Israel and abroad – we are always at your service with a fast and professional reply, which includes all the reliable and accurate information you need.
Respectfully Yours, Haim Shibi
